An EHCP should not just read well. It should translate into provision that actually works.
An EHCP should not simply sound impressive on paper. What matters is whether it accurately describes need and translates into meaningful provision for the child.
An educational eye, from someone who has implemented them
I have worked with EHCPs from inside schools for many years: contributing evidence, implementing provision, running annual reviews and seeing which plans make a difference in the classroom and which don’t. That experience is what I bring to reviewing a plan with you.
The questions I ask are educational ones. Does the plan describe the child you know? Does each need have provision attached to it? Is that provision specific enough that everyone would understand what should happen, how often and who would do it? Could it realistically be delivered in your child’s setting?
I can help you understand
- whether the EHCP accurately describes your child’s needs
- whether Section B really reflects your child
- whether needs and provision connect
- whether the provision is clear and meaningful
- whether the outcomes make sense
- whether important areas may be missing
- whether the provision could actually work in school
- which reasonable adjustments should be in place
- what the priorities are for the annual review
- which questions to ask
Having provision in place is not the same as having the right provision in place.
Going into an annual review prepared
The annual review is the point at which a plan should be checked against reality. Has the child changed? Has the provision been delivered? Has it worked? Are the outcomes still the right ones? Parents often arrive with a great deal to say and little time to say it. Preparation helps you focus on what matters most.
- Review of the agreed key documents
- Consideration of current needs, outcomes and provision
- Identifying priorities and questions to raise
- A consultation, plus preparation notes and parent priorities
Meeting attendance is not included.
