Making revision possible, structured and manageable.
A personalised revision system built around your young person’s subjects, exam boards, gaps and SEND profile, so they always know what to do next.
“Just revise more” doesn’t solve the problem
- “They know the content but just cannot organise themselves.”
- “Every time we talk about revision, they shut down.”
- “They have missed so much school that we don’t know where to start.”
- “They need structure, but a normal revision timetable doesn’t work.”
- “They are bright enough to do well, but revision is completely overwhelming.”
It isn’t about doing more revision
Many neurodivergent students know they should be revising. The difficulty is everything that comes before the revision itself: knowing where to start, breaking a subject down, deciding what matters most, remembering what they’ve already covered and getting going when the whole task feels too big.
Telling a young person to “revise more” doesn’t remove any of those barriers. It often makes the avoidance worse.
Instead, I create a personalised system that reduces the load on working memory and planning, and gives the student one clear next step at a time.
The aim is simple: a revision system the young person can actually use.
Common barriers include:
Designed for neurodivergent learners
This service is particularly for students who are capable of much more than revision currently allows them to show, including those whose attendance, anxiety, fatigue or health have made the GCSE years especially hard.
It draws on my work with ADHD, autism and SpLD, my specialist teaching qualification, years of leading GCSE access and reasonable adjustments in schools, and my own experience as a parent.
- ADHD
- Autism
- Dyslexia and SpLD
- Executive-functioning difficulties
- Overwhelm or anxiety around revision
- Difficulty starting tasks, or knowing what to revise
- Inconsistent attendance and significant gaps in learning
- Low confidence
- Bright students who can’t organise revision independently
Built around the student, not a template
This isn’t a downloadable revision timetable. Every plan is built around:
What a plan can include
Depending on the student’s needs:
- individual subject revision trackers
- topic-by-topic breakdowns
- exam-board-aligned checklists
- priority gaps identified
- a realistic weekly structure
- short revision blocks
- task-starting prompts
- visual progress tracking
- confidence tracking
- “what to do when you’re stuck” prompts
- simplified routines
- manageable daily targets
- exam-paper planning
- subject-specific strategies
- support around missed learning
- executive-functioning strategies
- help prioritising what matters most
- plans that allow for attendance, anxiety, fatigue or health needs
Neurodivergent-friendly by design
Structured, low cognitive load, practical and flexible. The point is to make progress visible and to reduce overwhelm.
Particular experience with English
I have particular experience of creating bespoke revision structures for GCSE English Language and English Literature: turning two large, open-ended subjects into clear, question-by-question systems.
For English Literature, that can mean structured work on characters, themes, key quotes, context, exam skills, comparison skills and practice essays.
- question-by-question exam systems
- sentence starters and writing structures
- common mistakes and exam technique
- quote-learning systems
- theme and character trackers
- context
- practice and confidence tracking
- clear essay checklists
- manageable revision routines
How it works
GCSE Revision Strategy Session
A consultation with the parent and young person to identify the barriers, the priorities and the revision approach that is most likely to work.
Book a Strategy SessionBespoke GCSE Revision Plan
A genuinely bespoke written revision package, which may include priority subjects and topics, a personalised weekly structure, subject trackers, executive-functioning supports and clear next actions.
More extensive multi-subject plans are quoted individually, depending on scope.
Enquire about a Revision PlanFollow-up
A short review to check how the plan is working and adjust it where needed.
This is revision planning, not tutoring. I build the structure and strategies that make revision manageable. I don’t offer ongoing weekly tutoring or subject teaching sessions. Exam access arrangements are a separate matter for the school or exam centre; see SpLD & Assessment.
GCSE revision resources: coming later
I plan to add downloadable resources based on this approach, such as subject trackers, flexible weekly planners and “what to do when you can’t start” sheets.
You don’t need to know exactly what service you need.
If you’re unsure where to start, The SEND Surgery is designed for exactly that. Bring the problem. We’ll identify what matters, what needs clarifying and what your next steps could be.
