Provision Planning & Interventions

The right support, for the right need, for the right reason.

Having provision in place is not the same as having the right provision in place. I help families understand what good support should look like day to day, and whether it is working.

Provision planning

I have extensive experience of designing, implementing and reviewing SEND provision across a school, from everyday classroom adjustments to specialist, individual programmes. I know what a provision map looks like from the inside, and what it takes to make provision happen consistently.

That means I can help you look beyond whether support exists and ask whether it fits.

I can help you understand

  • what support should look like day to day
  • whether it matches the identified need
  • universal provision
  • targeted provision
  • specialist provision
  • reasonable adjustments
  • frequency and intensity
  • review cycles
  • measuring impact
  • whether it’s making a meaningful difference
  • whether additional or different provision should be considered

An intervention is only useful if it targets the right need and makes a meaningful difference.

Interventions & support

Interventions that do what they say

I don’t sell intervention programmes. What I can do is help you work out whether the intervention your child is receiving is the right one: whether it targets the actual need, whether it is happening often enough and with enough intensity, and whether anyone is measuring the result.

Sometimes the honest answer is that intervention alone isn’t enough, and that adjustments across the whole school day matter more.

Areas I often look at:

  • Literacy intervention
  • Executive functioning support
  • Emotional regulation
  • Autism-informed support
  • Targeted intervention
  • Specialist intervention
  • Intensity
  • Frequency
  • Review
  • Impact
  • When intervention isn’t enough
  • What need is this intervention meant to address?
  • How often does it happen, for how long and with whom?
  • What was the starting point, and what has changed?
  • When will it be reviewed, and what happens if it hasn’t worked?
Not sure where to start?

You don’t need to know exactly what service you need.

If you’re unsure where to start, The SEND Surgery is designed for exactly that. Bring the problem. We’ll identify what matters, what needs clarifying and what your next steps could be.
